A chance not wasted
When Nitin Gupta and Rohan Gupta first looked at the estimates of e-waste India cities would generate 10 years from today they saw a blend of business opportunities and social responsibilities. And so began their venture of recycling e-waste, Attero Recycling. “According to a report, by 2015, two billion PCs are expected to invade our homes and our mobile subscriber base is expected to be about 450 million. The figures say a lot about the need for recycling,” says Nitin.
“The focus of the organisation has been two fold: R&D and customer satisfaction. The basic foundation of our company is the precious metal extraction technology that we have developed in-house. This enables us to recycle e-waste in the most environment-friendly manner,” says Rohan, Co-founder and COO, Attero.
Today, Attero Recycling has pan-India collection centres. It picks up the e-waste from customers and at the time of collection and transportation ensures its customers complete data security. The company is in the process of developing a comprehensive collection model, where people can drop their e-waste. The start-up, besides partnerships with funding and logistics agencies, has tie-ups with more than 200 corporate houses. Going ahead, the duo want Indians to dispose of their e-waste ethically, and government and industry to participate actively in the recycling movement. “We also want the scrap dealers to join the revolution, and move beyond the crude and highly unsafe methods for recycling e-waste that result in severe environmental and health hazards,” adds Rohan.
