Cherry on top
For the longest time, even since childhood, a fruity mocktail meant fighting over the cherry with your siblings. Then we grew up and ordered cocktails, some of which also carried pitted cherries. Although they add little flavour when dropped into a drink, most people prefer to pull the cherries out by their stems and eat them as well.
So when you’re planning on making your own drinks at home, buy maraschino cherries with stems attached if possible. Also, green maraschino cherries have strong, different and a slightly minty flavour while red maraschino cherries are sweet and tasty.
Here’s a rule of thumb: If a drink calls for a maraschino cherry, a red maraschino is almost always preferred.
