Cider isn’t just some sweet beer
Unless you’re from Himachal Pradesh or you’re a well-travelled Indian, cider is not a drink that you would be familiar with. Coming from a 2,000-year-old tradition of an alcoholic but healthy drink, cider is made from fresh apples and finds its roots in the beer-drinking history of England. Cider varies in alcohol content from 2 per cent ABV to 8.5 per cent or more in traditional English ciders.
An Indian manufacturer launched the Tempest cider brand from Himachal Pradesh, also known as the apple state of India, in 2007. While cider has a strong English history, it has gained popularity the world over, in the past decade and India, an emerging alcohol market, cannot be overlooked. Apart from Tempest, there is also Wonderwyne from Himachal.
Most beer drinkers may have the tendency to be dismissive of the cider thanks to its sweet taste but that doesn’t make the drink any less potent. In fact, studies dedicated to the comparison show that not only is the drink deceptively strong, but it’s also a healthier option. However, this apple drink will not guarantee keeping the doctor away.
