City gears up for extended revelry
The countdown around the world has begun for that big New Year’s Eve bash. And that’s not it. As you dance the night away, there’s more excitement to look forward to, as the next day is a Sunday too. With the New Year’s Eve calendar giving a real treat to party revelers as it falls on the weekend, Delhiites tell us how it’s going to be an extended celebration for many.
“One usually has to work the day after New Year’s Eve. But it’s a Sunday this time, I have planned a trip to Jaisalmer,” says Apar, a PR professional.
For Lohit Kumar, who works with a recruitment firm, the forthcoming week is the time to have fun. “This is what you call a celebration. We can get drunk, and stay over anywhere we want, and there’s time to cure the hangover too. Also I always end up going to work in a lousy mood on January 1, so this year, after a weekend blast, I'll be fresh when I enter my workplace on Monday,” he says.
And then there are some who say the last two weekends of the year have been a festive bonanza for them. Rajiv, a photographer has thrown two parties this week. For 31st, his friends have booked a hotel to dance the night away. “We had a blast on Christmas and the party is more grand on December 31. All my friends are off, and we have an entire day to relax later,” he says.
Those who are off on Saturday gave up spending on the lavish parties in the city and are moving away to quieter hubs. “I’m going to Lansdowne with family. We usually spend a lot on going to hotels on New Year’s as there’s no option when you have to work the next day. But this time, we’re leaving on Friday evening and plan to be back by Monday morning,” says Vijay Nathani, a government servant.
