If you were one of those who wished you could play ice hockey or even skate on ice, here’s a good news. Delhi’s first ice skating rink and café iSKATE has opened in Ambience Mall Gurgaon, which will be open to public from December 18 onwards. Spread over 15,000 sq feet, it promises to make playing sports and learning to skate absolute fun.

Seven times world champion, Welsch figure skater Richard Rowlands, manager, operations, iSKATE, adds, “There’s more to ice than skating, and we have trainers here who will impart proper training to children as well as adults. Besides ice hockey, people can try their hands at broom ball, which doesn’t require one to wear skates. We are sure families would love to spend time here, which has the facility to host private birthday parties and even karaoke session. It will be open all seven days and we will charge `300+taxes per person for an hour on the rink and on weekends it’s `400+taxes for an hour.”
Homemaker Swati Gupta, resident of South Delhi, is excited and can’t wait to take her kids aged nine and 12 to the rink. She shares, “As a family, we are still conservative, we like to spend time with them outdoors. We recently attended the kite festival at India Gate and it was fun. Ice skating is something we will enjoy together.”
Research scholar Tarun Monga is optimistic and says, “As a Delhiite, I am really excited to witness the opening of Delhi NCR’s first ice skating rink. Delhi is now a global city and opening of iSKATE ring just confirms the fact. Also ice skating is huge overseas and a good sport. This will surely encourage a lot of youngsters to take up ice skating as a sport and master it.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
