Colour me funky!

Your hair makes a huge difference to the way you look and a fabulous hair colour never goes unnoticed. National Technical Head for Schwarzkopf Professional, India, Najeeb Ur Rehman gives a lowdown on the hair colour trends, looks and techniques that are making headlines this season:

Wild things
This season, hair colour goes bold and bright. A lot of coppers, reds and violets for the tomboyish and fiery look. Shades of beige, gold and auburns work well, for the soft, feminine and girlish look.

Green revolution
The trend of ‘going green’ has taken the market by storm even in the area of hair colour. Hence, non-chemical hair colours consisting of natural ingredients are in. Ammonia-free permanent hair colour is a popular pick.

Colour code
The season’s shades are browns, copper and intense copper for women. For a bold and brazen look, intense coppers should be worked in panels and sections to highlight and bring forward a strong persona. Classic cuts go well with this kind of colour, which is very futuristic.
Straight line/geometrical chunk colour techniques are in vogue and have taken over. Colours like reds, coppers and violets placed in geometrical chunks create a bold, fearlessly edgy and rebellious look. This is a trend for the truly self-assured woman, who defies convention. Boyish fringes, hair slicked into quiffs and hair colours that are bold and brazen.
For a sensuous and sophisticated look and an I-don’t-care attitude, be it long hair or short, go in for a colour technique that uses the same tones of colour but in different shades, for example different shades of violet give a super sleek look with a lot of depth.
For men, browns, light/dark blonde in natural tones are in. The trend this season for men is kempt hair, be it short, clean or edgy, and colour in shades of brown. Or better still, keep it simple and crisp with natural tones.

Take care
Coloured hair needs protection from pollution, sunlight and external influences which might fade hair colour. Use colour save sulphate free shampoo and colour save conditioner to keep the hair conditioned and strengthened.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
