Colour me red on Christmas eve
It’s time to paint the town red. Since Christmas is round the corner, style gurus say red will be big this year in fall\winter. From local street markets to snazzy malls the colour red seems to be omnipresent. We give you a lowdown on how to cast a spell with this colour without going overboard.
Be it cute Santa hats, a sexy red dress or haute red accessories, shops are full of various red shades. Kalpana Singh, a DU student, who plans to invest in a red dress opines, “The LBD is too common, this year I am going to invest in a red dress, which is not only sexy, but also in. I have already seen many stores and brands that are selling red outfits for the party season.”
Designer Manish Tripathi confirms that red is a hit this year with fashionistas. He says, “A lot of my clients have asked me to make red dresses for them this year. Even for weddings many people are opting for bright red outfits as it makes them stand out in a crowd. I think all shades of red look good if you match them well with accessories. Blood red, scarlet or matt red, there are plenty of shades to choose from.”
Tarini Nirula, a stylist and designer suggests that red is sexy and a powerful colour, so it should be used sensibly.
She says, “One should never go in for red from top to bottom as that can make you look like a clown. If you are wearing a red dress then pair it up with black, gold or silver accessories. One can also opt for a black dress and team it up with red stockings or a hairband. A classy red leather stiletto or handbag looks perfect with a black dress. Even while applying make up use only hints of red like a matt red lipstick or nail paint.”
