While seeking out their perfect partners for settling down into matrimony, brother-sister duo Abhishek and Varsha Agnihotri hit upon the idea of starting ‘Footloose no more’. What started as a Facebook page with just two members, has grown into a large community on the social networking site as well as a separate website and recently announced its 48th wedding.
“When we started it, our own friends called us desperate. They asked, ‘Who starts looking for a spouse in this fashion?’ But we were desperate! While our friends were happily married and living with their families, we were spending all our time with the same bunch of people. Our social circle wasn’t expanding (it never does after a point). We just needed to take some drastic step,” shares Varsha.
‘Footloose no more’ has over 1,900 members so far on their website and 3,000 more on Facebook. They claim that they only accept 20 per cent of requests, from the ones they get.
Asked what sets them apart from so many matrimonial sites, Varsha says, “Well, first of all, each person’s credentials are authenticated in person through meetings, where they have to bring official papers to verify their identity. Only then they are allowed to join our website. Apart from that, we hold regular events where members meet each other in a safe, populated and fun environment. If they are comfortable with each other, they can take it forward from there. Also, we encourage members to come with their family members or friends so that they are comfortable and do not feel intimidated.”
Abhishek and Varsha both found their life partners at one of these events and now they’re happily married.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
