Cool click with wedding photography
When you think of a wedding photographer, the image that comes to mind is that of a middle aged man, old-fashioned camera in tow with the flash going “pop” every time a new set of guests climb on stage to pose next to bride and groom.
But Sanika Jahagirdar — adjudged the winner of the third edition of Kodak Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year — will bust those illusions in an instant. The petite, dark-eyed 24-year-old was selected from over 20,954 participants to win the title, becoming the first woman to do so since the awards were instituted in 2009.
Sanika’s images were picked as the best photo series on a single wedding. Six category winners then headed off to Malaysia for a final showdown, where she managed to impress the judge, renowned photographer Sephi Bergerson, enough to win the top prize. “The final face-off in Malaysia was very unique and the competition, was intense,” recalls Sanika, who has been working as a freelance photographer for two years now, having earned a diploma in Commercial Art.
“When you photograph a wedding, you’re documenting emotions, and these images give pleasure to the family for years to come,” says Sanika’s, won prestigious mentions from the Photographer’s Guild of India and the International Photo Imaging Education Association.
