Cries of the silent world
Artist Vasudevan Akkitham’s works portray the world of animals. Talking about his solo show, he says, “My show titled ‘Grid of Fire — Animals at no hope to escape’ aims to depict the atrocities faced by the animal world.”
Through his works, the artist has tried to showcase an imaginary jungle that is burning and crying for mercy owing to the tyranny of mankind. Vasudevan has carefully employed a contemporary canvas by depicting disturbed animals in an urban setting.
“The usage of the word ‘fire’ is symbolic of the catastrophe that the animal world is heading toward. Also, being a part of the silent world the animals are unable to fight back the oppression caused by mankind,” says Vasudevan who is also the head of department, painting, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodra.
Although cruelty is the core of these works, the artist has worked with delicate and flowing textures, approaching them with an unnerving hope.
