The dance party ends

Though he is first contestant to be evicted from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa — Season 6, Suresh Menon is glad that he embarked on the journey and learnt “how to do his steps correctly”.

Suresh is all praises for his choreographer Suchitra, who, he says, put in great effort to get him — and cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya, in the previous season — to dance. “Suchitra is a wonderful choreographer; she taught Jayasuriya for the earlier season, and now me, so hats off to her. We’re both nowhere close to being dancers, and yet she tried her best and put in effort to make us ‘move’. In the next season, I think she should partner a celebrity,” he says. He recalls how Suchitra would teach him a step, and he’d struggle to learn it. “Compared to all other participants — most of whom are very good dancers — I was a joker,” he says nonchalantly. “Prior to this eviction, I performed on three songs for this show. The fourth was with Jacqueline Fernandez as a cameo along with Shaan, Siddharth Shukla and Karanvir Bohra,” he elaborates.
Back in his college days, Suresh recalls attending parties with friends where he would dance without inhibitions. “I studied at the Mithibai college and I remember Ravi Behl, who was one of the best dancers in our college, used to perform at college functions. Even I used to dance at those fests in general, but Jhalak is something totally different.” So how did Suresh end up participating on the show, one wonders. “I know I am not exactly dancer material, but so many non-dancers have made their mark in Jhalak, I felt compelled to try my hand at it too,” he sums up. On the movie front, Suresh says he has three films releasing this year — Grand Masti, Bored in Bangkok and Disco Valley.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
