While Freida Pinto continues to charm Hollywood, Andy, short for Anupam Maloo, another Indian talent, is finding his hood. A regular in the theatre circle in the US, Andy has also done movies including Cheat Cheat Bang Bang, The Rite Of Passage and Buckets Of Sorrow, and is now gearing up to play D’artagnan in the screen adaptation of The 3 Musketeers.
The Delhi boy, Andy moved to the USA to pursue acting training at American Academy of Dramatic Arts and New York Film Academy before landing the roles the theatre. “It was quite hard for me in the beginning, going to auditions and not booking jobs. But once you get a couple of roles, it gets a lot easier as then one leads to the other. But struggle is something that you can associate at every stage in this business. There is bus full of actors coming to Los Angeles every day and there is a bus full of actors leaving LA every day,” he says.
On a short break to India, Andy is in talks with Indian directors to take up work here. “I have been contacted by one the producers of the National Award-winning movie I am. He wishes to have me for one of his forthcoming projects, which is still in the pipeline”.
Meanwhile, the young actor is enjoying catching up with friends in Delhi. “My love for family brings me to Delhi every 4-5 months. I just can’t stay without these visits if it is just for a few days. I act like a pakka Dilliwala when I am here,” quips Andy.
