Delhi girl ready to rock B-town
After being crowned Miss India Universe in 2007, Pooja Gupta had to go through a prolonged period of struggle before she could finally set foot in Bollywood. Like most of her contemporaries, she too went through her share of failed auditions and countless trips to studios before a fortunate accident landed her on the female lead in Vashu
Bhagnani’s next venture Faltu. “I met Jackky Bhagnani at a dinner party once, when we still didn’t know each other. We got talking and he told me about this film that he’s working on. They were still searching for someone for the female lead. One thing led to another and finally when Remo saw me, he cast me,” she recalls.
There was a time when Pooja almost got herself admitted to NYU. “I come from a very studious family background — my mother is a gynaecologist, father a chartered accountant and brother an engineer. But my heart was never into academics. Right from childhood I have enjoyed the camera and I knew that I had to make a career in the world of entertainment,” she says.
But she is quick to confess that before Faltu, she didn’t have even an iota of experience in acting. “I am still alien to the world of theatre. Three months prior to the shooting, I attended acting workshops. Remo sir even took me to a few colleges and asked me to observe how the girls behave,” says Pooja.
The Delhi girl is still not able to decide which is a better city. “Delhi is home,” she adds.
