Delhi girl to star in film made by 25 directors

It was a friend who posted on Ridhima Sud’s social networking site, details about a movie casting calls for an international film. Casually, Sud got in touch with the filmmakers. And after a few rounds of audition, Sud, was offered a role in the Guinness World record-breaking film The Owner (film with a crew of 25 directors). Delhi girl Sud makes her acting debut in a film that premieres all across the world on May 25.
The Owner follows the adventures of an old backpack that is passed from character to character around the world. She will appear in the part of the movie directed by Dubai-based filmmaker Fahad Sheikh. Sud says that her Indian looks helped for the role. “Thanks for my Indian and earthy looks, I fit the character depicting an Arabian woman,” she says. When asked about her apprehensions working in a film where 25 directors from five different continents showcase their work, she smiles. “It is a global film that will have maximum visibility. That’s the biggest compliment,” she says.
A student of DPS R.K. Puram, Sud, went to the New York for her graduation. And she fulfilled her passion when she studied history of arts at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York. “Since childhood, I had developed a deep interest to explore various forms of art and always wanted to learn more about Indian art works,” she says. Sud also freelances as an art consultant. “I do art consultancy for a few close friends and currently I have no plans to pursue it professionally,” she assures.
The recent ad campaign of Ponds Dreamflower is very close to Sud’s heart. “Shot by one of my favourite directors, Dipanker Banerjee, I had a great time shooting with the contemporary filmmaker,” gushes Sud. Further she adds, “The concept of making Indian films is changing now. Bunch of new contemporary directors such as Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap are changing the meaning of Indian films. I would love to work with such directors who think out-of-the-box.”
Early last year, Sud acted in a short film opposite Mohit Marwah in The Audition, directed by Karan Boolani. “It was my first short film and it was a learning experience for us,” she says. Next in line is another indie film directed by Gul Dharmani. “The independent film makers have an aesthetic sense. Thanks to my study in arts, I can completely relate to it.”
With commercials and short films, this young actor’s hands are full. “I would continue my art works and pursue my career in acting as both are creative and go hand in hand,” she winds up.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
