Delicate, dazzling, dramatic
In the world of fashion where trends change in the speed of light, there are only a few “timeless” statements that one can hold on to. Perhaps that was the idea behind designer Gaurav Gupta’s ‘Lightfall’ collection that traced the journey of fluid silhouettes.
On the last day of the PCJ Delhi Couture Week, the designer opened his show with a delicate, diaphanous evening dress, which had strategically placed sequined surface ornamentation that dazzled under the arc lights.
The colour story started with black and slowly moved to metallic hues, white, beige and finally culminated in vibrant shades of neon and bold gold. Gaurav styled his models in finely draped sari-gowns that came with long trains — some in fine net and others in ruffled organza and tulle. The floral embroidery at the neckline and hems of the carefully pleated ensembles were noteworthy. The gold-bronze accessories for ears and hair completed the entire look.
Gaurav’s showstopper actress Kalki Koechlin rocked a sequined gold high-slit gown with a ruffled train, and looked visibly confident strutting in nude coloured heels. On the front row was pretty actress Aditi Rao Hydari, who cheered for Gaurav in an off-white sari-gown, and mentioned, “I love his collection. I think it is fun and crazy, just like the way he is.”
