Desi divas turn bold on screen

After Emraan Hashmi, actor Vidya Balan has taken to onscreen kissing. Vidya kissed Madhavan in Guru, Arshad Warsi in Ishqiya and now she is seen kissing Tusshar Kapoor in The Dirty Picture. What more, given a chance she would love to kiss George Clooney, she recently mentioned in an interview.

The Indian heroine is no more shy and has no qualms getting bold in real life as well. Actor Kangana Ranaut claimed on Simi Garewal’s popular chat show, India’s Most Desirable, “I desire Anna Hazare”. Whereas Sonam Kapoor said “Best thing about being single is going out with my girls and checking out all the guys.”
Priyanka Chopra’s parents are worried about Chopra’s self-confessed predilection for “bad boys” which she reiterated on Simi’s show. She went on to say that of all the people she wants to kiss, Deepika Padukone tops the list!
Deepika too announced on Karan Johar’s chat show that she will gift condoms to Ranbir Kapoor.
“Isn’t it good that film actresses are finally coming out of their shell. The line between reel and real is definitely blurring. Their confessions make them more believable,” says Ankush Borthakur, a Bollywood buff.
Many feel that being chilled out and bold onscreen comes from being the same kind of person offscreen as well. “The director can’t really force you to be what you are not. In this time of real cinema, it’s hard not to be a shadow of who you are in real life,” adds Salolli Sharma, a DU student.
Seconds model Megha Dave, “Cinema is a reflection of society. Women today are independent and well-educated. Their no-nonsense approach, confidence and devil may care attitude is wonderfully portrayed on the screen.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
