Dilli ki sardi is the perfect weather and reason for Delhi party revellers to organise and attend interesting bashes. The run up to Christmas and New Year is the most happening party season, and this year too there are plenty of innovative theme parties happening across the town.

RJ Dipp Bhargav says that this season the party scene in Delhi has gone desi and many people are choosing Bollywood themes for their private parties. He says, “I have been invited for many filmi theme parties this year. Most of them have themes inspired from movies like Don, Delhi-Belly, Rockstar, etc. In one of the parties the theme is ‘Going retro,’ where the guests have been asked to dress up as one of the characters from the 70s Bollywood films.”
Jattin Gulati, director at Nirvana Entertainment, a party planner company, says that a lot of people are going in for interesting themes this year. He says, “I recently attended a pre-New Year bash where the theme was ‘party like a millionaire’ and all the guests were asked to don loads of bling in their outfits. We have also got various queries about themes based on popular music genres like hip-hop, disco, rock etc.”
Some party themes are also based on colours, where the central theme revolves around seasonal colours like green, red, black etc. Raja Malhotra, a 26-year-old entrepreneur says, “I will be attending a Christmas bash at one of my friend’s farmhouse which is based on the theme ‘green grinch.’ In this party all the invitees have to wear something green.”
Gunjan Kapoor, a PR professional, who recently organised a ‘pink pyjama’ party says, “I invited 14-15 friends to my house recently as a pre-New Year get-together. Our theme was pink pyjamas and all of us wore cute pink pyjamas to that party.”
Aditya Kapur, owner of Party Hunterz shop, informs that this time they have received party queries about various themes. He says, “Like every year this time too the Santa and Santarina outfits/accessories in bright red are in huge demand. We have an entire section on mythical and vampire accessories, which is also very popular this year. Many people have also asked for superhero party accessories. We have also got queries on themes like ‘rock-n-roll’ and ‘awards night/red carpet celebrities’ for private parties.”
Nickhil Seth, a party enthusiast and owner or Babelon club, mentions about some private theme parties that he organised this year. He says, “I recently had a theme party called ‘action replay,’ where all the guests dressed up in retro style and wore flowers. I also had a party based on the theme of ‘vampires and draculas,’ where everyone had to dress up in a spooky fashion.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
