Dev all set for B’wood debut
Unlike most people who come from a film background, Dev Goel, grandson of celebrated filmmaker Devendra Goel, didn’t want to be associated with films initially. However, life had other plans for him and the young actor is all set for the release of his debut film Hum Hai Raahi CAR Ke on May 24.
Speaking of how it all happened, Dev says, “I was the rebel in the family which is incidentally very similar to the character I play in the film. I didn’t want to pursue a career in films. So I went on to graduate in Economics and eventually got a job with HDFC. After working on nine-to-five shifts for a year, I realised I couldn’t keep doing that for the rest of my life. It didn’t interest me enough. That’s how I branched out of banking and became an actor.” His family was only too happy with his decision.
“I started developing the script for Hum Hai Raahi… and when I showed it to my father, (Jyotin Goel), he thought it had the potential to be made into a film. I told him that I had only one condition. Should there a film be made on this script, I would be acting in it,” Dev says. Even though it was an in-house production, Dev had to go through an audition to get selected for the role of the male lead while Adah Sharma bagged the female lead. The comic caper also stars established actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla and Chunkey Pandey.
Speaking of his experience of working with senior actors, Dev says, “Initially I was slightly intimidated with Sanjay sir’s commanding aura but he was very patient with us. And Juhi was a riot on sets. It’s after very long that people will see her in a comic role and I can say for sure that it has been worth the wait.”
