Diwali cheer for young cancer victims
City based Uday Foundation, an NGO, is all set to make this Diwali memorable for several children battling cancer in hospitals across the city. Under the banner Umeedon Ki Diwali, the NGO has tied up with an online crowd-funding network, Wishberry, to raise funds for the project.
The NGO aims to cover about 1,500 children suffering from cancer in ten government and private hospitals. Various activities like gift distribution, magic shows, story-telling sessions, dinners in renowned hotels in Delhi and others will be organised from November 7 to November 12. Most of the activities would be arranged in the hospital premises.
“Many children spend Diwali in hospital and have very little to look forward to. We want to make this Diwali special for them by engaging them in activities that they will enjoy,” says Rahul Verma from Uday Foundation. The NGO has appealed to people to bring some cheer to children battling disease this Diwali.
Last year too, the NGO celebrated Diwali by visiting children at cancer ward of AIIMS and children with heart defects at Escorts Heart Institute. This year, the NGO will be visiting these two hospitals and a few more government hospitals where usually underprivileged kids are admitted to celebrate Diwali with them.
