Double the joy!

The husband is home before the wife because she is the young corporate lassie. This is the story of many couples today. Women today are earning higher pay packets and spending longer hours at work. Today’s men are happily welcoming this change as it works to the couple’s benefit in the long run. None of them look at this situation as a compromise.
Preetham Gubbi, a director whose wife Sushma Rao is an actor, says, “Both of us are working towards the same motive of building a house and many other things; a brighter future for us. We never feel like we have to compromise on anything.”
Men don’t look at it as a challenge to function around a workaholic girlfriend or wife. Couples make it a point to compromise anything to have their “we” time.
Most men believe that making the time for your spouse is the key factor here. Actor Gulshan Devaiah, whose wife Kalliroi Tziafeta is an actor too, says, “You have to find the time. When you are relaxed and calm, you always find the time to do many things. My wife and I make it a point to have breakfast together. When I am travelling, if she is free she accompanies me.”
Watching movies seems to be the best “we” time these couples spend. “Movies are our best hang out,” says Preetham. Not only do these couples spend time by being with friends but also doing household chores. Gulshan says, “We do a lot of house work together like washing, cleaning and cooking.”
Couples find it easier to explain the situation to their spouse in the same field. Preetham says, “Since we are in the same profession, it makes it that much easier for us. Once there is trust and understanding, the relationship works.”
Most of these youngsters believe that when career kicks in, things balance out. Karan Rao, a model, whose girlfriend Smitha Rao is an aspiring actress, says, “We are in a phase where we are evolving in our career. We look at the brighter side of things; if our efforts are put in now, nothing in the world can stop us from acquiring anything in the future.”
But, another way of spending time with your working partner is to go on holidays. Karan adds, “We make time three or four times in the year to unwind.” Gulshan and his wife are looking forward to visiting their family in Greece this December. Preetham says, “I work my holiday time around my wife’s. When she is free we venture out.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
