Dress-mess ruins theme party fun

If you’re all set to throw a theme party this weekend, be ready to address a few spoilers. “People still don’t know how to follow the theme of a party by dressing up right,” said hair stylist Sylvie at a recent do where guests were required to sport the retro look in pink. And it’s not just Sylvie who is complaining about the city’s unsporty dressing sense at theme parties. Many who plan theme parties are often disappointed by guests who just don’t care about the dress code.

“People in Delhi still haven’t understood how to dress up right for a theme party. I believe either they are not too creative, or they love to hop from one party to another. I’ve observed that Delhiites usually dress up for a couple of parties together, they want to be seen everywhere, so they usually end up looking out of place,” says socialite Thenny Mejia.
Sylvie further stresses that Delhiites still aren’t willing to experiment with themes to get that creative look. “It’s just sad that people can’t wear something as simple as pink, when a simple pink tee is available for as less as `150. What is it that stops people from following themes? Delhi has a long way to go when it comes to dressing right for theme parties,” she adds.
According to emcee Ramneek Pantal, the city is gradually waking up to the concept of a theme party and will take some time before everyone dresses up just right. She says, “I feel Delhiites are trying to follow themes as much as they can. Though many still don’t know how to dress up according to the theme of the party, there are some who follow it quite stylishly.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
