Dry weekend dampens fun
It seems like the MCD polls have come as a spoiler for many partygoers. Due to the polls on April 15, the Delhi government has declared April 13, 14 and 15 as dry days. So from 4.30 pm onwards on April 13, no liquor will be served till 5.30 pm on April 15.
Amit Paul, who works with Punj Lloyd and has just returned from Bengaluru after a hectic official tour, says, “It’s very frustrating. I wanted to spend the weekend with friends and had planned the trip accordingly, but the MCD polls spoiled our plans.”
For Surendra Kumar, an event organiser, dry days this weekend have affected his business. “I don’t know how to re-plan my schedules. I had received orders for Baisakhi parties, but this order has come as a spoiler for many of my clients.”
According to reports, bars in the capital have been instructed to not serve liquor from April 13 to April 15. So you can have a nice dinner with your loved ones but no alcohol. Manish Shukla, an entrepreneur, says, “I had plans to take my wife to a club and enjoy this weekend and celebrate Baisakhi as well. But after government’s instruction to bars we are planning to unwind at a hill station. Although it is good that the Delhi government has banned sale of liquor keeping in mind the chaos which many party workers create after drinking, but three days are just too much.”
Dry weekend is a huge loss of business for many pub owners too. “We will be missing many of our regular clients who come on weekends. The business will definitely suffer,” says a manager from Kabila Bar and Restaurant.
