DU wall to sport hues of change
Come Sunday and North campus, Delhi University will see a splash of colours. Professional and amateur artists in the city will get together and ‘design the change’ they desire in the city.
After the success of the Mumbai leg, the Delhi Wallbook plans to put together the expressions of 500 artists on a 1 km long stretch outside the DU wall with the theme, “Design the Change”, through a competition to gauge the best representation.
Sunil Kutty Menon, founder, Delhi Wallbook said, “Art is a tool and freedom of expression will help in designing the change, for the improvement of society plagued with social evils. It would also awaken the caretakers of the society by reminding them time and again, about their responsibility.” The endeavour is being carried out under the aegis of Tata Housing Development Company Limited.
“I, along with a couple of friends, am planning to present how my dream city would look like, where women are safe, everybody is happy and there are no protests happening,” says Anika Verma, a graphic artist.
The competition will see participation from many amateur artists and young enthusiasts. “I decided to use a creative medium to show my angst against the crime happening in the city. I do not intend to make a political statement. I just want people to stand up for their rights,” says Sourav Taneja, an MNC executive.
“Being an art enthusiast, I have decided to make a graffiti to represent the male mentality towards the women,” adds Kingshuk, a MBA student. The competition will provide budding artists a chance to create and showcase their work out in the open.
