Early retirement isn’t GenY’s call
Kareena Kapoor recently said that like Zohra Sehgal, she would also like to work till 90. Of course, unlike many actresses, she is in no mood to retire after a certain age. Kareena is not alone to shun the standard age of 60 for retirement.
Many youngsters also want to follow Kareena’s footsteps. Some want to work as long as they can, and some aim to work aggressively to save enough for an early voluntary retirement.
“I completely agree with Kareena. I would also like to keep myself creatively and mentally busy till the time my body allows. We work hard to make a mark in our respective fields. What’s the point of giving it all up and retiring when you can utilise your years of experience and prosper professionally,” says event organiser Surbhi Nayyar.
However, the idea of being in the rat race for too long does not excite businessman Mayank Goel. “I started handling my father’s business at the age of 17 and have saved enough. I plan to work for another 12 odd years, save a little more, before calling it off,” says Mayank, who wishes to take it easy after an early retirement and do something creative.
When it comes to retirement, employees are making their own rules these days, insists Jiten Jain, an IT expert. “I do not want to waste the best years of my life in office. I would rather take short breaks from my job to enjoy myself,” says Jiten, who is planning to take a year-long break from his job and travel across the world.
