While you are shopping for Diwali, whether gifts for your loved ones or for your own home, why not earn some points for social cause as well? This time, go in for some trendy eco-friendly home products that would not only add a different element to your home but also help many artisans and people working at the grass-root level.

“With the growth of the middle class, there is a huge market for eco-friendly products that were not heard of earlier,” says Sunil Ajmera, president, Foundation For Arts, an NGO that is promoting socially-conscious shopping with their stores in the capital.
Foundation For Arts works in association with many artisans in and around Delhi and other states for utilitarian products.
“We try to experiment with the products. The out-of-the-box ideas help us tap more consumers,” he says, as he talks about cutlery with ceramic handles, hand-painted key holders, hand-made masks and other such items that have got many takers.
People are becoming more interested in eco-friendly concepts. Eco-friendly products are very economical and also contribute in maintaining the ecological environment around you and thus is becoming popular among many.
“When it comes to handcrafted eco-friendly products, the market is still untapped and full of potential. Handcrafted items not only look more elegant, they are also light on your pocket and contribute in increasing the living standards of craftsmen who are the master of this art. In India, manufacturers and buyers both are increasing at the same pace. Craftsmen from various parts of the country like Kerala, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Delhi are coming up with interesting products that add drama and quirkiness to your home,” says Monika Gupta, founder of www.craftsvilla.com that has a host of products for the conscious shoppers.
Looking at the growing market, many people are associating themselves with such products. “We have associated with many designers, social entrepreneurs and artists who have designed some really good products for us,” says Ajmera.
