Enjoying the thrill of bitter winter chill

So the most-talked about dilli ki sardi is back, but this time with a “cold-shoulder”. As bone-chilling winter in Delhi continues and temperatures drop more than Shimla, people are braving the bitter chill everyday. Although Delhi is gripped by severe cold, this year, people in the city are not complaining and some are enjoying the thrill of the winter chill.

“I’m loving it. There is a distinct charm in wearing layers and keeping a stole wrapped around while going out for long walks. I really enjoy my winter morning drive to office, along with the beautiful mist. Winters in Delhi never annoy me, rather I feel it’s the most romantic time of the year. I feel that the city is never as alive as it is in these winter months. Be it visiting old monuments or sipping tea and having corn on the cob in the evening at India Gate, the opportunities for entertainment almost double up during this time,” says Niharica Rai, a media professional.
And for some winters are the time for parties. “After almost four years, this is the best winter, the city has ever experienced. It’s so much fun to hang out with friends, have bonfire parties with bar-be-que and drinks at home. It’s also a fantastic time for get-togethers,” says Savyasachin Mittal, a BPO employee.
The unusual dip in the temperature, has brought with it extended holidays for school kids, which has made students happy. “With extended holidays, we will get more time to enjoy winters. Now, it’s back to the old routine of watching TV till late night, waking up late, enjoying kebabs and popcorn at home. I also love sitting in the sun and reading books.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
