EQ not IQ may determine your success in life
Inspirational leader and world known Emotional Intelligence expert and legendary author, Dr Daniel Goleman delivered a talk on “Emotional Intelligence and Leadership” in the city recently. Dr Goleman explained how emotional intelligence contributes to the bottom line in any work organisation. Based on data from a variety of sources, it can be a valuable tool for HR practitioners and managers who need to make the case in their own organisations.
On the occasion, he also launched the Hindi translation of book written by Indian author on EI, Dr Dalip Singh. Ever since the publication of Dr Dalip Singh’s book on Emotional Intelligence in 2001, emotional intelligence has become one of the hottest buzzwords in corporate India.
Dr Dalip Singh said, “If your emotional abilities are not in hand, if you are not able to manage your emotions, if you do not have empathy, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get far.” Dr Singh’s book has been published in many Indian languages and also in English and Chinese.
The book helps us to know what determines professional success. Is it primarily your intelligence level or intelligence quotient (IQ), or is it your personality characteristics, or a combination of several things? According to the proponents of emotional intelligence (EQ), a person’s emotional make-up largely determines his or her professional success. They believe that EQ is the most important determinant of the extent of professional and personal success in life.
