An era of bioplastics
Ahmedabad-based company, Greendiamz Biotech, in association with its partner Limagrain-France, has brought to India a fully biodegradable and compostable bioplastic material. Called Truegreen, it is made from Biolice, a 100 per cent biodegradable and compostable material. Biolice benefits from the OK Compost and Kompostierbar certification, which, in accordance with European Standard EN 13432, guarantees the product’s complete decomposition in less than 24 weeks. These standards imply that soil bacteria will decompose 95 per cent of the material to carbon, oxygen and non-toxic biomass.
The new bioplastic range includes Truegreen film for custom-printed carry bags, fast-food containers/boxes, mulch film for use in agriculture and horticulture, and lining material for jute bags, canvas bags and paper bags — giving a truly biodegradable tag to these natural fibres. “Truegreen’ does not use any petroleum products in its complete manufacturing cycle, making the products truly environment friendly,” says Ronnie Khajotia, CEO, TrueGreen - Greendiamz Biotech.
The new plastic is priced 3.5 times more than its usually available counterpart, but the company aims to achieve its target of selling 1000 tonne in the first 15-18 months.
