European splendour

Decorated to perfection, the 12,000-sft home of businessman B. Ravi Raj and wife Mourya is a sprawling mansion in the plush Jubilee Hills area in Hyderabad.

Fully designed in pristine European style, the house is white with splashes of mauve, green, beige and black all over. The entrance is adorned with a huge wooden and crystal glass door and there is fine inlay work by Rajasthani craftsmen on the Spanish marble floor.
The couple moved into their dream home four months ago, but ideating and designing took nearly three years. “We went with the European style because of its elegance and I love the slopes on the roof,” Ravi shares.
The drawing room has an 18-ft wide window just to “let the light in”. There is plush Italian furniture and two chairs are embellished with Swarovski crystals. The green-themed open dining space has an Italian custom-made modular kitchen. All the rooms have exquisite chandeliers imported from China and Italy.
There are no figurines in the puja room but divine images are painted on black stone. All five bedrooms have walk-in closets and a dressing table. The master bedroom bears a regal look with artifacts from Dubai, South Africa and China.
Their son Prerith’s room has an elevated bed with a sea voyage theme.
The three-storeyed mansion also houses a pool, a gym, a cellar, an entertainment room, a home-theatre which is under construction, and a huge parking area. Ravi mentions that the house is Vastu compliant.
“Even if you don’t believe in Vastu, you must build your house according to it. We had a puja before our housewarming party,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
