‘Every woman’s an inspiration’

Born and brought up in an affluent family in South Mumbai, Pavan inherited his taste for luxury. As a founder and creative director of a successful jewellery brand, Pavan Anand’s penchant for all things beautiful is as striking as his work. A qualified architect, he turned his eye to jewellery designing at the age of 24.

“Designing had always intrigued me. But more than the aesthetics of designing, it is the economics of it and its translation into something more tangible is what really captivated me. When you’re young, everything is worth a shot, because you don’t stand to lose much. So I took the plunge,” says Pavan who is equally involved in the designing and branding of Dagmar.
An all rounder at work, he believes that combining your artistic skills with entrepreneurial ones is but a necessity in today’s world. A passionate traveller, Pavan’s designs are inspired by his sojourns across the globe. “I love to travel. It is by far the most enriching experience of my life. My collections are named after my travels. We have had collections called Marrakesh, Ibiza, Upper Eastside (Manhattan) etc. that reflect the essence of a particular place,” he says. A true admirer of beauty and style, Pavan is certain of one thing— you either have it or you don’t. You may hone your sense of design and style by joining a course or college, but if you lack it inherently, there’s little any course can do,” says Pavan who believes he is blessed with a keen eye for style.
His designs have been worn by celebrities across the world right from Nicole Kidman and Megan Fox in Hollywood to our very own Deepika Padukone. He is also the only Indian jewellery couturier to do a show with the label Versace. Ask the artist about his favorite muse and he says, “For me every woman is beautiful and every woman is an inspiration.” Following the footsteps of his icons in the fashion industry like Bvlgari and Armani who have extended their designs to luxury apartments and resorts, Pavan hopes to someday diversify his own work too. “My vision over the next decade is to create a designer brand that is synonymous with luxury and a distinct style,” he says.
Ask him to define luxury and he says, “It is being surrounded my beautiful things. They don’t have to be expensive, but things that make you happy. It involves earning yourself a better quality of life which essentially comes from a sense of love and respect for oneself.”
