An ex may be your soulmate

How difficult is finding one man, when there are billions of them present on our planet? The answer apparently is very tough. Forget Plain Janes, even stunners are finding it impossible to find someone to date, let alone marry. If actors like Preity Zinta, Dia Mirza and Deepika Padukone can be single, you can imagine the plight of

others. Even Jennifer Aniston is struggling to find a significant other ever since Brad Pitt moved on. So what does a girl do? Go back to her ex ofcourse. Designer Nandita Mahthani is back with Dino Morea and this time she doesn’t want to let him go. Sienna Miller, after dating half a dozen men, has gone right back into the arms of her former fiance Jude Law, even though she dumped him for cheating on her with his kids’ nanny. Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra have broken up and gotten back together three times now. Director Sanjay Gupta’s ex wife decided to forgive and forget (his alleged affair with Sameera Reddy) as she re-married him and Om Puri wanted to go running back to his first wife when he decided to break up with his second wife after she published a tell all book on his life.
Is there really nobody else out there that one has to go back to their ex with a selective memory, forgetting why you broke up with them in the first place? Dr Chitra Srivatsav, pre-marital counsellor at Delhi Commission for Women says, “After dating other people, women might realise that everyone has issues and nobody is perfect. They then feel instead of adjusting to a new person and waiting to discover what their flaws are, it’s better to get back with an ex, whom you know so well. The comfort factor is there.”
Guess dating a known devil, with whom you did share chemistry with, is much better than waiting for Mr Perfect to show up, while the only thing approaching is yet another landmark birthday. Besides, people change, so maybe your ex is no longer a love rat, commitment phobe, a dope head or moody creature.
Does this make going back to an ex the only solution to the problem then? Is it wise to get back with someone whom you found rather unappealing towards the end, or who dumped you hoping to find someone better? Dr Seema Hingorani argues that getting back with an ex is not always a deliberate thing. “Technology and social networking sites make you stay connected with each other and give exes an opportunity to keep in touch.” Dr Hingorani also says that at times you need to step out in the world to realise that you have a good thing going. “A patient of mine broke up with her boyfriend, dated three people after that and went right back to him because she realised he was the best. He too took her right back as he confessed to not clicking with women he saw after her.” Loneliness also plays a huge role, when people go back to their ex.
Getting back with an old flame due to lack of options is not very romantic, but being granted a second chance in life is not a bad thing. If a guy is waiting to take you back with open arms, maybe it was meant to be after all.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
