Exotic beauty

Red wine, caviar, chocolate and strawberries… The mere mention makes one’s mouth water. And yet they needn’t be just for you to drool over, as these lust-worthy goodies come packed with all the ingredients that can make you look gorgeous.
Women who want truly perfect skin are no longer restricting themselves to the usual cleansing-toning-moisturising routine, they are looking at various exotic ingredients to help them in their quest for gorgeousness.
Going in for a caviar facial might not sound all that appetising, but if experts and endorsers, like Salma Hayek, are anything to go by, then this is one delicacy that’s soon going to be on every woman.
Most of these are used on the face in the form of scrubs or facials, but some, like red wine are also used for the entire body.
Dr Rohini Wadhwani, a Mumbai-based skin specialist, says, “Scientific studies have proved that these ingredients have a positive effect on the skin when used right. Usually, we use a combination of machines and these ingredients to achieve the right effect.”
Madhulika Sharma, a skin care consultant elucidates the effects of these exotic ingredients: “Fare like caviar and red wine are rich in anti-oxidants and they can be applied for a wide variety of uses, right from correcting sagging skin to restoring sheen. Strawberries are also a storehouse of anti-oxidants and they are used on younger skin to make it look fresher and tighten pores. Chocolate is also wonderful on the skin because the cocoa content is high, which makes it a wonderful moisturiser.”
While skin experts are all for the exotic therapies, they sound a note of caution. “For example, a red wine treatment might sound great, but it might not be compatible with your skin, so you won’t get the desired results. That’s why it is so important to match your skin type with the treatment,” explains Dr Rohini.
Since these components are natural, it is important that appropriate after-care is also taken.
“These treatments come with a price and you want the effect to last as long as possible, so it is better to stay away from chemical products, go swimming and too much exposure to the sun immediately after getting a treatment done,” adds Madhulika.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
