Fashion divas forever
They have increased the heartbeats, ruled the industry and defined fashion for women. At the peak of their careers, they have sold the films with giant posters. Now when actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi and Karisma Kapoor have made a re-entry in the industry they continue to lead the fashion bandwagon. Not just them, actresses like Juhi Chawla, Kajol and Shilpa Shetty continue to inspire fashionistas with just the right dose of elegance and style.
“Not many actresses in their late 30s or 40s have been able to influence the fashion scene like Madhuri, Sridevi, Karisma and Kajol. So far we have seen Maryl Streep and Julia Roberts making news for their trendy gowns and hairdos but now our B’town divas are also breaking the age bar and setting trends. They are influencing the style statement of their age group. They know what works for them and what not. Madhuri Dixit likes to keep it elegant and simple while Sridevi confidently experiments with her clothes and hairstyles,” says fashion designer Nikhil Mehra. Many of the actresses have evolved with time and adapted to the latest fashion trends. They not only stay in shape in spite of the age and kids but also have personal stylists to keep up with the fast pace of the fashion world.
“Being fashionable doesn’t mean wearing expensive designer clothes or high end brands. I believe Karisma Kapoor has groomed well with time. In spite of giving birth to two kids she is very well maintained. She has a very classy fashion sense. She wears black very elegantly and chooses the right accessories. Without trying very hard she manages to look stylish and charming,” says fashion designer Sunita Shankar.
While Madhuri and Juhi Chawla are mostly spotted in saris and anarkalis with full or three-fourth sleeves Sridevi can carry off anything from Indian to western with elegance. We have seen her looking ageless in simple jeans and shirt with her hair tied in a ponytail, says fashion designer Rohit Mittal. “She carries simple basic look with much panache and élan. Sridevi has always set trends and she continues to do so. No wonder we have these actress making to the cover of all big magazines and their photos all over the newspapers,” adds Rohit.
Actresses these days are more focused when it comes to fashion. Even Shilpa Shetty who has stayed away from films projects for a while now pay detailed attention to her clothes, hair and accessories whenever making a public appearance, adds Nikhil. He continues, “Our eagle-eyed paparazzi who are practically every where these days, including the airports, have made our actresses take conscious wardrobe decisions. They understand the importance of always looking their best.”
