Is fashion gender oriented?
Sonam Kapoor, the oh-so-stylish and uber chic of Aisha, feels Indian men lack sense of style and fashion. Or at least the ones that matter, do. By saying that Indian men don’t understand fashion, except for the ones who’re gay, Sonam basically suggested there’s little difference between a well-dressed Indian man and a homosexual Indian. The suggestion has Indian men up in their ill-dressed arms.
“What does she mean straight Indian men don’t understand fashion?” event management professional Dylan Roberts demands. “Maybe she said so because no Indian man has ever made a pass at her, but that’s hardly because of his sexual orientation,” he adds, retorting to her suggestion with a cunning dig of his own.
While their sartorial inadequacies have for long been documented, the men say they have had enough of these snide remarks. “If a man dresses up well, he is called metrosexual, or even gay. If he doesn’t, he’s just a person with no fashion sense. Either way, we get the flak,” laments Siddharth Rao, wondering why men always get the wrong end of the stick.
