Fears grow over Yuvi’s health
Southpaw batsman Yuvraj Singh has apparently flown to England for further treatment for his lung tumour which the entire nation is praying is not a malignant form of cancer.
Sources close to the family in Delhi said that the 31-year-old cricketer left for England on Saturday.
Yuvi had been suffering from bouts of coughing for a while and it was rumoured that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer. However, to the relief of his fans, in October 2011 his third biopsy had confirmed that the tumour (a golf-ball sized lump on his left lung) was non-malignant.
“We are waiting for another biopsy report and he will be seeing an oncologist (Dr Anderson Nicholan) in London,” the source said, adding, “We await the results of further tests and don’t know whether he will need to undergo chemotherapy.”
Apparently only his closest friends in the World Cup winning 2011 Indian cricket team — in which Yuvi was the Man of the Tournament — were aware of his condition.
Strangely, Yuvraj’s mother, Shabnam Singh, who is closest to him, has not accompanied her son to UK.
Fans are also worried that the cricketer, who has always been prolific on Twitter has not updated his messages for a few days now.
A source said that though he was not being treated for an injury, the BCCI might foot Yuvraj’s medical expenses.
