Feat of clay, fired by passion
Pottery for artist Rahul Kumar is a silent spiritual journey. He calls it a passionate love affair to revel in forever! Rahul brings life to clay in his latest exhibition Astronomically Small.
“As a child, I could have never imagined being a potter. Though my artistic inclination was encouraged, art was not considered a suitable career option those days,” says Rahul, whose love for moulding clay into shapes of his imagination and playing with bold colours resulted in him reinventing things from nature in his own visual language. Astronomically Small, a body of ceramic works, is primarily a cluster of ultra-tiny pots where less is more for the artist. Rahul likes to balance wheel throwing and slab construction. Developing these two methods simultaneously allows a fresh creative approach. “Clay helps me return to my core and reclaim parts of me. My works celebrate my journey so far. It is a contained outpour of passionate creativity that chooses to communicate through clay,” says the artist.
