A festival of fun and games
If you were to take the side of a telecom company, how would you like to bid for the 2G-spectrum auction? Hint: strategy and managerial operations. “While this may seem jargon, it was fun to answer the question through a simulation game,” says Rohit Roy, a student of NITIE Mumbai visiting the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, for its fest called Imperium.
“A simulation game replicates real life activities in the form of a game for purposes like training, analysis or prediction,” he says.
The 12th edition of Imperium, the annual inter B-school management and cultural fest of MDI, had 72 hours of fun with activities ranging from corporate quizzes to cultural shows, band performances, a fashion parade and adventure games.
The fest had interesting on-campus games like Biz-Czar, Phalanx and Beyond Karma, besides buzzing online action with Twitterthon and games like Nautica. “This year, Nautica’s theme was the auto industry. We gave each team 1.5 billion units as an investment to buy assets, manage capital and raise money to run their company. And all this happened online! We had teams from 28 B-Schools and 18 engineering colleges, including students from Germany participating,” said Vineet Gala, the organiser of Nautica.
Most of the contests had prizes to be won. But more than the award money, the contests encouraged participants to form networks with each other and MDI students, says Paresh Adnani, organiser of Imperium.
