Film fest zooms on budding filmmakers
The “Festival of Short Digital Films”, which was held in the capital at the Asian Academy of Film and Television, Film City, recently showcased 18 short films by budding filmmakers. These included eight debut films and 10 films shortlisted from the last 19 years. “The festival has so far given opportunity to 1,100 new directors to showcase their talent,” said Sandeep Marwah, president, Marwah Studios and director, Asian Academy of Film and Television.
The festival is held four times a year and has so far screened more than 1,500 films. Many students were thrilled about showing their films. Simran Narula, whose A Touch Of Innocence was well appreciated said, “My film is about a hardcore criminal who kills the father of a mentally challenged girl in a fit of rage.”
Other films shown at the festival include Pranav by Achal Singh, Anterdwand and Sachin Song by Ram Prasad, I Love Music by Praveen Pratyush, Advertisement Film by Parul Gupta, Limitations by Rebecca Chadwick and Kaleidoscope by Sana Warsi.
Associate dean, AAFT, Mansoor Naqvi, says that the festival tries to bring in new subjects and technology in films screened. “We have recently started using digital camera for filming. Digital camera is a cheap technology that makes it easy for many students to be able to afford making a film,” he adds. The 75th festival will also be taken to different cities.
