Food from the heart
Food, for this entrepreneur, is not merely a way of doing business. Her restaurant is a charity-driven venture. Running a restaurant is not merely a business for Simar Jeet Kaur, managing director of Simar Ventures. It’s an avenue for supporting charitable causes.
Simar started out as an actress with Sun television, starring in their daily soaps. Even as a child, she had witnessed people throwing food in the trash which was a delicacy to many who rushed to grab it. Thereafter, she knew she had to be a part of the hospitality industry -- and not just serve food, but help the needy through her efforts.
Simar who runs her restaurant in a posh locale says, “I have people from Amritsar in my kitchen who serve the best of authentic Punjabi dishes.” Parallelly, she conducts fund raising events at her restaurant to be able to help the lower sections of society. Even as an actress she would put aside a percentage of her earnings for purposes that could be useful to society. “I just do it in a little bigger way now,” she says.
“I was always a keen observer and learner. This includes my vacations spent in Turkey, China, Paris, Srilanka where I have tried out a range of dishes.” Maintaining a perfect balance between family and work life, Simar makes it a point to keep both well nurtured. “If only the personal life is peaceful and there is a good amount of understanding, work stress does not seem a burden,” she adds.
