Frenzy of fanatic fans
How far would a fan go to meet an idol? An evidently die-hard fan of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently impersonated a Congress leader at a function to meet up with his icon. After being caught, this DU gym trainer, Sukhbir Singh landed up in jail.
Crazed fans stalking celebs is not a trend exclusive to Taylor Swifts and Madonnas of Hollywood. A hoax caller, recently nabbed for threatening the Delhi chief minister, claims to be her fan.
Star-struck Gunjan Saini, 25, narrates how she could go to any limits to meet her favourite star Hrithik Roshan. During the shooting of Koi Mil Gaya, she would travel 20 km daily from Nainital just for a glimpse of the heartthrob. “For 10 days I would rush from school directly to the venue. It didn’t matter that I got expelled from my physics classes,” she recalls.
Former model and grooming expert Mehyar Bhasin narrates how a fan travelled with her all the way to a four-city tour. “It was a lovely gesture,” she says. “But many of my friends have experienced some really obnoxious fans. They will unnecessarily get close to you or be overtly nice even when you don’t want it,” she adds.
Celebs say it’s not easy to deal with annoying fans, because you can’t even be rude since they admire you. “I had to face a lot of booing and jeering when I refused to meet a few fans at a do,” says Nisha Bhat, a model.
Recently, a hysterical fan of heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor threatened to jump off a building and even strip if the star didn’t take a photograph with her. “Who doesn’t crave fan following? But fans should also adhere to decorum and respect the stars,” insists Mehyar.
