Call them your childhood companions, who became the perfect grown up mates. Surprisingly somethings in fashion remain constant, just like the fabulous summer frocks that are always a hit in this season.

Designer Aastha Narang is quite happy to vouch for their consistency. “Summer frocks can never go out of fashion as they are the best to beat the heat and makes a sober fashion statement,” she points out. For Aastha, at the moment they are looking good as, “Frocks are looking dapper, with the classic pleats and the conventional A-line pattern. Find a flip flop and place a sling bag to complete the look. Yellow, orange, green, mint — are all perfect for any occasion. If you wish to carry a print then you can go with vibrant floral prints, crazy object prints or just stick to the ever dependent stripes,” she says.
Designer Shraddha Murarka has also set her eyes on the season’s hit dress. “You have probably worn them all your life and yet frocks don’t have a tiring effect on your fashion sensibilities. Keep it simple and it will naturally turn stylish, that’s my mantra. I feel the pattern should stick to the classic format that comes well fitted till the waist and then the drape takes a flowy turn.”
You can get innovative with the sleeves and opt for camp sleeves or a single crocheted ruffle. “Let the length dangle till the knee. Laces can make an appearance on at the edges, but remember not to make them too prominent. Soft floral prints in ivory and pastel shades make the staple style here, however my pick will be a blue tea-cup prints on a beige background. Frocks have always make an impression in soothing white with self colour cut work or lace fabric, and the idea will click now as well,” suggests Shraddha.
To let it move from the prim and proper tag and introduce a sensual feel to it, designer Amita Chittora has some haute ideas to share, “The neck line can take a bit of a plunge and in no time, the frock become hot property. And, if you go the glam way, an off shoulder frock for a night out can be an absolute delight. Blues with a sequin tinge or a subdued print can be a winner all the way, retro rose prints never went out of fashion for frocks. Not to miss the prom frocks, off shoulder with a rising hemline and ample flair.”
Counting on the celebrity love for this style, she reminds, “Kate Middleton, the Dutchess of Çambridge loves wearing frocks for royal engagements, her fashionista sister Pippa has also made it popular while actor, Mila Kunis too has been exploring the variations of frock on the red carpet. Frocks are definitely drawing a lot of favours and it can be your choice too.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
