Fun, friendship and laughter

The title line ‘har ek dost kamina hota hai’ is the character of the film Chashme Baddoor, says director David Dhawan. In the city to promote the film, along with the star cast, Dhawan adds that the on-screen chemistry between the actors is the same in real life. “I think that’s the USP of the film. I wanted everyone to have fun on sets so that the same fun can be reflected in the film also,” smiles Dhawan during a press conference at Le Meridien.
Taking a cue from Dhawan’s comment, Ali Zafar, who is playing the simple and humble Farooq Sheikh’s role in the film, says, “I never had so much fun on sets. We used to roam around in Goa, where the film has been shot, all night and most of the rehearsals happened at the late night dinners,” he adds.
The original Chashme Buddoor is also being re-released on the same day, however, Dhawan insists that both films have different target audience and his film won’t be affected by it. Denying any controversy around the remake of the film, Dhawan says he went ahead with the project since he wanted to make the film with a young set of actors, “The story and treatment of the film is very different and in sync with the times.”
“Starring in the remake of the classic comedy Chashme Buddoor was an offer I couldn’t refuse,” adds Ali. However, for Siddharth it was an emotional decision to take up the project. “I chose a comedy film after a long gap since my first Bollywood film, Rang De Basanti, because I am a big fan of Ravi Baswani,” says Siddharth. He adds that the film is a tribute to Ravi Baswani since he is the only star from the original cast who is not amidst us anymore.
“Though box office verdict is yet to be out, working on the film was so much fun that this makes an ideal Bollywood debut for me,” says Taapsee Pannu. While film songs like Dhichkyaaon Doom Doom are topping the music charts, Divyendu Sharma says that his hilarious sher-o-shayari in the film also carry social messages for youngsters.
“Be it ‘if you can’t change the girl, change the girl’ or ‘ek gayi toh dusri aayegi’, these are the motivational messages for youngsters to move ahead in life,” jokes Divyendu. “On a serious note, I loved my character and hope that the audience will also like our film,” says Divyendu.
The film, releasing today, will hopefully be as much fun for the audience as it was for the cast.
