Fusion of two worlds
One might think that moving to a two-bedroom apartment spread across just 250 yards from a much bigger house would be problematic, but not really. If all the areas are utilised well and different items are placed properly, then even a small home looks good.
Designer Preeti Ghai and her husband restaurateur Nagesh Ghai, who moved to this small apartment in Panchsheel Park, recently from their parents’ house in the same area, have made sure to make it a paradise.
“There’s always some pros and cons to an idea. We knew that moving to a smaller space would bring in some difficulties but then there was immense satisfaction when I designed the entire house on my own,” says Preeti.
But while Nagesh likes everything simple and subtle, Preeti is fond of bright hues and little ornamentation. “It was difficult to develop a space that suits the design sensibilities of both of us,” says Preeti, who took a balanced approach and came up with a neo-classical look. So, the white curtains and beige and brown furniture have been clubbed with a tinge of teal, pink and some Swarovski crystals.
Other than the regular places, the design sensibility is also visible in every nook and corner of the house that have been utilised wisely. Like, the small corridor with cream coloured walls brings an artistic influence with soft lights and an in-house constructed table decorated with candle stands.
Other areas in the house are done up similarly. “Since the space was less, we got the furniture designed in-house so that all the areas are utilised well in the best possible way,” says Preeti.
