Galliano gets Dior sack for remarks

French fashion house Dior said on Tuesday it is firing John Galliano after complaints were lodged with the police that their star designer made offensive and anti-Semitic comments. Dior said it decided to start procedures to fire Galliano after seeing a video clip that purportedly shows the designer shouting abuse at people in a Paris bar. “I very firmly condemn what was said by John Galliano, which totally contradicts the values which have always been defended by Christian Dior,” Christian Dior chief executive, Sidney Toledano said in a statement.

Sheen may sue sitcom makers
Los Angeles: Charlie Sheen’s lawyer says that the actor is planning to sue the makers of his sitcom Two And A Half Men for $320 million after its production was halted. Sheen’s show was put on a halt following a series of scandals in his private life and his public rants against Chuck Lorre, creator of the show. Nypost.com reports that the actor is planning to take legal action against Lorre and Warner Bros. bosses. “He intends to hold Warner Bros. fully accountable for the compensation owed on his contract and to hold Warner Bros. and CBS fully accountable for all of the consequences of their actions. If he’s not paid as requested, our client intends to bring appropriate legal action against Warner Bros. and Mr Lorre,” said his lawyer, Marty Singer.

Blues legend Eddie Kirkland dies in accident
Crystal River, Florida: An 88-year-old Blues legend known as the “Gypsy of the Blues” was killed in Florida when his car turned into the path of a Greyhound bus.
Eddie Kirkland was travelling southeast on US Highway 98 in Crystal River, north of Tampa, about 8.30 am local time on Sunday when he tried to make a U-turn in front of the bus, the Florida highway patrol said.
The bus, which was travelling northwest, pushed Kirkland’s Ford Taurus about 200 yards (metres) before the vehicles stopped. Kirkland was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died. Thirteen passengers were on the bus, which was being driven by 67-year-old James Smith of Tallahassee, the highway patrol said. —AP
