Vivacious Geeta Basra is out to re-invent herself with some interesting roles in her kitty. Be it her raunchy number in Sanjay Dutt-starrer Zilla Ghaziabad or her full-on comedy with Arshad Warsi in Mr Joe B. Carvalho, Geeta says she feels as if she was never away from Bollywood.

Presently shooting for Calling Mr Joe B. Carvalho, which also stars Soha Ali Khan, Geeta finds comedy a difficult but a fascinating genre.
“One has to be spontaneous and get the timing right and for getting the perfect effect, there has to be a perfect co-ordination between all the actors on screen,” she says and adds that she’s achieved that wavelength with her co-stars.
Talking about working with Arshad, Geeta says, “I have known Arshad for quite a while and we’ve been waiting to work together. We had great fun while shooting for Zilla…. He kept on pulling my leg and even called me ‘Rani Saheba’ since the song is titled Ghaziabad ki Rani. Everytime I would pass by, the unit guys would follow Arshad and yell Rani Saheba shot ready hai. Having him on the sets is so much fun. It doesn’t seem like work at all,” she says.
But how difficult was it gyrate for an item song? “It wasn’t difficult at all. I grew up watching such numbers by screen goddess Helen. These songs have been an integral part of cinema for long. There is nothing new about it,” she says. “Also, I am not a method actor and believe in being spontaneous. So, I just took it up and got going. I am really glad at the outcome. Working with Sanjay was a learning experience,” she says.
The actress also adds that she’s disappointed with the recent controversies around Kamal Haasan’s film Vishwaroopam. “It’s sad because it’s happening in our country where films are a part of our lives and we cherish our freedom. And this happening with a veteran like Kamal is very sad,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
