GET SUN KISSED HAIR

Come summer and it’s all about simplicity — even when it comes to hairstyles. Experts endorse the trend of fuss-free, low-maintenance styles as a sure-shot way to beat the heat yet stay in vogue this season. Millicent Howe, an internationally acclaimed hair colour and style expert, believes that sticking to your natural style is what counts in the summer. “This time around, it’s styles that are more natural-looking and make the best of your actual hair texture. The other thing that is in, is shiny, glossy hair which is a must for any kind of style.”
Stay away from too many styling products and chemical treatments in the summer.
A natural-looking hairdo doesn’t come without a dash of style. “Soft curls which are brushed back to give an almost tousled look is a style that’s easy to pull off. One could also opt for a centre parting, which is very in, otherwise one can go in for a swept-away parting that creates an elegant appearance,” adds Millicent. “What is most important is getting a very good haircut, this sets the base for any kind of style. Ensure that the haircut you have makes the most of your natural hair texture and complements your face shape,” says Amjad Jain, a top stylist.
Stylists advise that even when it comes to colours, it’s best that one sticks to shades that are reflected well by the sun.
“Reds, violets are in and so are browns of all shades. The one hue that’s really hot right now is caramel, which also suits the Indian skin tone very well. When it comes to hair colour, the current trend is for colours that begin dark near the roots and become lighter towards the ends,” explains Millicent. Another important factor is hair care — experts advise that one should never compromise on this routine. “During summer, don’t weigh down your hair with serums and leave in conditioners, go in for conditioners that are light. Often the hair becomes very sweaty and sticky in the summer, so wash it every day if you must, but condition it only every alternate day,” adds Amjad.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
