Gold plated playing cards

As the tradition goes, people buy precious metals to welcome Goddess Lakshmi to their abode on Dhanteras. Even as our previous generation indulged in buying gold, silver and utensils; the younger lot are making more innovative purchases.

Ashu Jain, software professional, who got married earlier this year, has decided to surprise her husband. She says, “Since ours is an arranged match, I recently discovered that my husband is fond of playing cards. I decided to gift him gold-plated playing cards. This would be the best buy for me, I guess.”
If you intend to buy any electronic gadgets or gizmos, this is the right time indeed! “I was planning to buy a 40 inches LED television to watch movies and matches. But my friends advised me to wait till Dhanteras to get the best deal. I have managed to get one at about 30% discount,” says Sahil Kapoor, a MNC executive.
Owing to soaring prices of gold, many have decided to restrict themselves to silver this year. “Every year, we invest in gold on Dhanteras. This year, I decided to buy a pretty silver jewellery set. Gold prices are too steep,” adds Megha Kumar, a PR executive.
In case, you want to remain true to the rituals of buying utensils, you have an option. ShalinIndia, an online shopping store, has launched ethnic copper kitchen and dining utensils on the occasion of Dhanteras. “This will enable customers across the world to buy traditional utensils on the occasion of Dhanteras,” says Shalini Verma, founder, ShalinIndia.
Cars, mobiles and bronze items are also reigning the market for Dhanteras.
Options galore this Dhanteras for you!

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
