Glassware adds to experience
Beer can be served in a regular tall glass, an English pint tulip, a Pilsner glass, a brandy snifter and even a stemmed tulip. While the regular tall glass or the mug is standard in most bars and pubs, the glassware classification is not without purpose.
“The English pint tulip starts narrow at the base and flares slightly out at the top. It works best with English and Irish stouts like Guinness. Golden lagers and pilsners taste better in a Pilsner glass. It is the traditional way to have beer in Germany,” says Mohit Lal, a bartender.
Lal, however, loves Belgian beers, so he would rather use the snifter or the stemmed tulip. “The glassware enhances the experience but most people associate such ceremony with wine. Beer is still preferred straight off the pint! Most bars in the metros that stock good beers, also serve them in the right glasses. Unfortunately people in India just look at the glasses as freebies from the brand and not as part of the experience,” he adds.
