Go cute and doll up
Pastel colours, a soft look that’s full of sugar, spice and everything nice — the girlie, dolled-up look is back in fashion. Think Sonam Kapoor in Aisha or even Kangna Ranaut in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai.
The first step towards making this look work would be to concentrate on removing all the extra, unwanted hair. “Wax your arms, legs and underarms, get your eyebrows shaped well — there should not be sharp edges, instead go in for a soft curve. Ensure your skin is blemish-free, you can even go in for a quick exfoliation,” says Meha Bastian, a senior stylist.
In this look the emphasis is on your eyes and lips, so pay attention to these features. To perfect your base, apply a sheer foundation that is light on the skin and evens the skin tone. One can also go in for a mineral foundation. “Now, when it comes to doing up your eyes, stay away from blacks because these make your eyes look harsh and smaller than they are. So go in for brown or even blue to line your eyes, grey is another shade that works. You can choose the smoky-eyed look for a slightly dramatic touch, or else you can fill your eyelids with a neutral shade of eye shadow. To play up your eyes, apply a lighter shade of shadow on the inner corner of your eyes. This will make your eyes look bigger and finish with coats of a long-lasting, volumising mascara,” advises Yamini Rao, a make-up artist and consulting trainer.
The dolled-up look also places emphasis on rosy cheeks. “Use a natural rosy tint for blush if you are fair, if you have yellow undertones or tan skin, then go in for a shade, which has hints of peach to complement your skin,” she adds.
The lips are another area that need attention. “It’s easy to achieve the perfect pout — outline your lips using a nude lip pencil. Now, use a brush and apply some lip colour. On top of this, apply a coat of lip gloss in a similar shade or sheer gloss,” explains Meha. “Apply a touch of translucent powder and you are ready to go,” she adds.
As for your hair, it’s best to keep it simple by wearing it in waves or even pulling it back into a chic ponytail.
