Go green by recycling cans

Convincing the youth to “go green” is a pan India effort by various NGOs that campaign for the environmental cause. The recent “Canvironment Week” organised and conceptualised by Hindustan Tin Works Ltd (HTWL), is spreading the message of recycling cans — through the medium of a colourful fashion show and dance performances — in Mumbai and Delhi.

Atit Bhatia, president of Canvironment Week, says the idea was to promote the importance of can recycling. “This is the 200th year of the can’s existence and we thought there could be nothing better than promoting the mantra of ‘reduce, recycle, reuse and respect’ — which applies brilliantly in maintaining the balance of environment,” says Atit.
The Canvironment Week was initiated for the first time by HTWL and aimed at the upliftment of the rag pickers in the country. “Underprivileged children in society who work as ragpickers were the main concern of this project. We want them to lead a better life and the proceeds of this week will aim to provide them that,” Atit adds.
A fashion show to promote the cause was also held where the clothes had interesting designs made out of cans.
